You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Chiefs did exactly that with Ben Sinnott in pick 107.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. On value alone, Barrett makes the weekend a net positive. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 32 they get a No. 1 receiver at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They paid a round early for Michael Hall Jr. in the Round 3 slot, more than the board wanted. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They paid sticker price for Christian Mahogany in the 95th pick, and that is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A real head-scratcher, Ben Sinnott in pick 107 is miles ahead of his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A clean, defensible pick in No. 132 with a little surplus value in Johnny Wilson. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
No edge and no loss on Walter Rouse in pick No. 159; it is a wash and a sensible one. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Dwight McGlothern at the 173rd pick. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A quiet steal in the Round 7 slot: Michael Barrett for less than the market said. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
