When a board-topper like Myles Harden slides to No. 252, you do not overthink it, and the Chiefs did not. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
They punted on tight end, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Every board in the league had Taylor III lower, and that gap is the story. They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Good work on the whole, with tight end the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a difference-maker at receiver. The biggest hole, addressed.
Patrick Paul at Round 2, Pick 32 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Leonard Taylor III at slot 95 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A reach on Mason McCormick in No. 132; the board had better options right there. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Luke McCaffrey in pick No. 159. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Khristian Boyd in the 173rd overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
The board fumbled Myles Harden all the way to pick 252, and they scooped it up. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
