You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Chiefs did exactly that with Joshua Cephus in Round 6, Pick 35. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
They punted on tight end, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
Good work on the whole, with tight end the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 32 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare. A real need, handled.
By-the-book stuff, Ricky Pearsall at Round 2, Pick 32 squarely in line with his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They took Dominick Puni at par in slot 95, which is nothing to complain about. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They did well to land Javon Foster in No. 133, just ahead of his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Khristian Boyd at the 158th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Michael Barrett in pick 172 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A wild overpay on Joshua Cephus in Round 6, Pick 35, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Dwight McGlothern at slot 250 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
