The weekend has a hole in the middle of it named tight end, a need the Chiefs walked right past.
The Simpson value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. On the needs board they went 4 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most. The skill positions did well by the weekend.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 32 they get a matchup problem out wide, and a steal at that. Exactly the need they had to hit.
No drama and no debate, Kingsley Suamataia went about where he belonged in pick 64. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Calen Bullock at the 95th overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Isaac Guerendo in Round 4, Pick 31 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A tidy bit of business in the 159th pick, where Luke McCaffrey graded well above the range. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Nice patience on Jaylin Simpson, who had no business lasting to slot 173. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
JD Bertrand at the Round 7 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
