For all the names on the card, the loudest question went unanswered. The Chiefs walked out of the weekend still thin at tight end, a hole that has a way of deciding seasons. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
They are betting Wingo proves the room right and everyone else wrong. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 32 they get a plug-and-play piece up front at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A reach for Xavier Legette in No. 64; a little patience would have been rewarded. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They went early on Mekhi Wingo in pick No. 95, and the value did not follow. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They paid sticker price for Jaylin Simpson in the Round 4 slot, and that is fine. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Walter Rouse at the 159th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Tahj Washington at the 173rd overall pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
