The Chiefs spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Quinyon Mitchell, the No. 30 name on the board, in the Round 2 slot. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Every board in the league had Cephus lower, and that gap is the story. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 32nd overall pick they get a matchup problem out wide, outstanding value to boot. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A cornerback of that caliber at pick 64 is the definition of value, full stop. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Mason McCormick at No. 95 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
The board fumbled Dominick Puni all the way to Round 4, Pick 33, and they scooped it up. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Theo Johnson in the Round 5 slot lands just on the right side of the ledger. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Austin Booker at pick No. 172 is money in the bank, a edge rusher taken below his worth. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They barely believed it either: Michael Barrett still on the board at the 210th pick. A need, and now a little less of one.
Joshua Cephus in slot 250 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
