You can hear the double-takes from here. The Chiefs took Khristian Boyd at slot 132, roughly 46 spots before his name belonged. No fireworks, but a solid B.
On value alone, Watson makes the weekend a net positive. For all the activity, tight end went untouched, which is hard to explain. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
The trade work was a quiet net positive.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the tight end spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
Fair-plus on Adonai Mitchell, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Cooper DeJean at the 64th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Somehow Ricky Pearsall was still sitting there in slot 90, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
You do not let an offensive lineman like Patrick Paul reach the 95th pick and blink. They did not. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They reached a country mile for Khristian Boyd at pick 132, and the board is aghast. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Steal is underselling it; Jaylin Simpson at pick No. 159 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Circle this one: Johnny Wilson at pick 162 is a fall that decides a draft. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Mason McCormick in the 173rd pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A linebacker of that caliber at pick No. 252 is the definition of value, full stop. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
