The Jared Wiley pick is the one that will follow the Chiefs into the fall. They took him 33 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it. On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
The offense got the lion's share of the attention. The dealing was even money, start to finish.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
Ricky Pearsall in the 56th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Kingsley Suamataia at the 64th overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Leonard Taylor III. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Jalen McMillan in Round 3, Pick 32 is fair value, right on his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jaylin Simpson. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Khristian Boyd at No. 159 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The roster fit checks out.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jared Wiley in slot 173, miles early. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Jalen Sundell at pick 252 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
