The Dwight McGlothern pick is the one that will follow the Chiefs into the fall. They took him 97 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so.
That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. That is an interior defensive lineman worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
Byron Murphy II at slot 32 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They took Cooper Beebe at par in No. 69, which is nothing to complain about. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Darius Robinson in the Round 3 slot is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Value said wait; Theo Johnson in the 133rd pick says they were not listening. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
MarShawn Lloyd slipping to the 139th overall pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They reached into another round for Isaiah Williams, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They went early on Michael Barrett in pick No. 172, and the value did not follow. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Dwight McGlothern in the 183rd pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Joshua Cephus at No. 256 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
