Kansas City Chiefs

The Chiefs let Suamataia fall into their laps, and walked away with a B+.

Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Chiefs were there to profit. Kingsley Suamataia, the No. 59 name on the board, should have been long gone before the 91st pick. A dependable weekend that grades out a B+.

The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. Reaching for Boyd left real value on the table behind him.

The tight end hole is the one line item this class does not answer.

Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.

Pick-by-Pick

R2.10 · Pick 42 · Darius Robinson · DL-EDGE · rank 39
Fair-plus on Darius Robinson, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R2.32 · Pick 64 · Xavier Legette · WR · rank 38
A wide receiver of that caliber at the 64th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · Kingsley Suamataia · OT · rank 59
The board fumbled Kingsley Suamataia all the way to pick No. 91, and they scooped it up. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R3.32 · Pick 95 · Devontez Walker · WR · rank 70
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Devontez Walker in pick 95, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R3.37 · Pick 100 · Dominick Puni · OT · rank 89
Dominick Puni in Round 3, Pick 37 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R4.27 · Pick 127 · Isaac Guerendo · RB · rank 129
They took Isaac Guerendo at par in No. 127, which is nothing to complain about. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R4.32 · Pick 132 · Jaylin Simpson · CB · rank 136
They paid sticker price for Jaylin Simpson in the 132nd pick, and that is fine. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
R5.3 · Pick 139 · Khristian Boyd · DL-EDGE · rank 168
Khristian Boyd at the Round 5 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A need, and now a little less of one.
R5.23 · Pick 159 · Dwight McGlothern · CB · rank 161
Dwight McGlothern at No. 159 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
R5.37 · Pick 173 · Luke McCaffrey · WR · rank 149
Luke McCaffrey at pick 173 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R6.13 · Pick 188 · Walter Rouse · OT · rank 163
Steal is underselling it; Walter Rouse at Round 6, Pick 13 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R7.32 · Pick 252 · Michael Barrett · LB · rank 235
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Michael Barrett at the 252nd pick is the proof. The roster fit checks out.
