When a board-topper like Jermaine Burton slides to slot 91, you do not overthink it, and the Chiefs did not. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.
Reaching for Barrett left real value on the table behind him. They punted on tight end, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
Jordan Morgan at Round 1, Pick 28 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A slide stopped in the 60th pick, with Denzel Burke worth more than the price. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
You do not let a wide receiver like Jermaine Burton reach Round 3, Pick 28 and blink. They did not. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Javon Foster at the Round 4 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Michael Barrett at pick No. 161 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It fills a real need, too.
No drama and no debate, Josh Proctor went about where he belonged in slot 171. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
By-the-book stuff, Theo Wease Jr. at No. 175 squarely in line with his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They jumped the gun on Dwight McGlothern, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
They reached a country mile for DeMonte Capehart at the 249th pick, and the board is aghast. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
