The Chiefs did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Nathaniel Watson fell into pick No. 252. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B+.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. That tight end hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
They will need Jefferson to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. The T.J. Slaton deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 25 they get a cornerstone up front at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Roman Wilson in No. 64 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Good price on Dominick Puni in the Round 3 slot, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Ja'Lynn Polk in pick 95 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Nothing to complain about; Isaac Guerendo went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A premium they did not need to pay, Jordan Jefferson a notch or two before his time. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They let Dwight McGlothern come to them and pounced at pick No. 173. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Kamal Hadden in Round 6, Pick 9. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Taking Nathaniel Watson in the 252nd overall pick is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
