When the story of this class is written, it opens with Matthew Jones at Round 6, Pick 34, a reach of 33 spots that the board flatly disagrees with. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
For all the activity, tight end went untouched, which is hard to explain. The Simpson value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 31 they get a go-to option on the outside. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A conviction pick on Cooper Beebe at pick 63 that the board grades a round light. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Darius Robinson at the 94th pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A need, and now a little less of one.
Edefuan Ulofoshio at the 131st overall pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jaylin Simpson in the Round 5 slot. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Kitan Oladapo in Round 5, Pick 35 lands just on the right side of the ledger. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They reached a country mile for Isaiah Williams at the Round 5 slot, and the board is aghast. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Matthew Jones. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They talked themselves into DeMonte Capehart at No. 252, and the board did not agree. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
