The Chiefs treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending No. 250 on Tahj Washington a full 129 spots early. The bottom line is a respectable B.
That is a linebacker worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same.
Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
T'Vondre Sweat at pick 44 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A conviction pick on Cooper Beebe at the Round 2 slot that the board grades a round light. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Good price on Junior Colson in pick No. 77, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A wild overpay on Darius Robinson in slot 95, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A premium they did not need to pay, Ben Sinnott a notch or two before his time. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Jaylin Simpson at the 158th overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A straight-up fair deal on Kitan Oladapo at Round 5, Pick 36, value and slot in agreement. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
You do not let a linebacker like Michael Barrett reach slot 210 and blink. They did not. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Tahj Washington in the 250th pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
