When a board-topper like Luke McCaffrey slides to pick No. 173, you do not overthink it, and the Chiefs did not. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through tight end. Every board in the league had Sweat lower, and that gap is the story.
Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 3 of 8 of the wish list covered. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 32 they get an anchor for the defensive front, though they paid up to get him. A real need, handled.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jermaine Burton at the Round 2 slot. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Christian Mahogany in Round 3, Pick 32 is fair value, right on his grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They took Jaylin Simpson at par in pick No. 132, which is nothing to complain about. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Mason McCormick slipping to No. 159 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Luke McCaffrey in the 173rd overall pick, plain and simple. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Josh Proctor is a better player than the 252nd pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
