The Chiefs clearly saw something nobody else did in Matthew Jones, taking him 40 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Getting Amegadjie where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.
They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
A tidy little value on Brian Thomas Jr. in Round 1, Pick 32, a step better than break-even. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Kiran Amegadjie in the Round 2 slot. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A real head-scratcher, Darius Robinson in the 95th pick is miles ahead of his ranking. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They reached into another round for Theo Johnson, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Khristian Boyd at pick 158 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Michael Barrett in the 172nd overall pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Value said wait; Matthew Jones in Round 6, Pick 35 says they were not listening. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Dwight McGlothern. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
