Call it larceny. LaDarius Henderson sat on the board until pick 219, and the Packers did not need to be asked twice. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.
The Oladapo pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. It is not that Oladapo is a bad player; it is that the Packers had louder needs to answer first.
That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 28 they get a problem off the edge, and a steal at that. The biggest hole, addressed.
Tyler Nubin at pick No. 41 is money in the bank, a safety taken below his worth. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A wide receiver of that caliber at the 57th pick is the definition of value, full stop. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Somehow Zach Frazier was still sitting there in slot 88, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They took Bucky Irving at par in Round 3, Pick 28, which is nothing to complain about. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A real head-scratcher, Cedric Gray in pick 99 is miles ahead of his ranking. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
The board had cheaper options than Nehemiah Pritchett at the 125th overall pick, and it noticed. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Kitan Oladapo adds a safety and leaves quarterback, tight end and other spots untouched.
Value said wait; Jaylen Wright in the Round 4 slot says they were not listening. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Taking Chau Smith-Wade in No. 203 is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They barely believed it either: Christian Jones still on the board at pick No. 217. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
The board fumbled LaDarius Henderson all the way to the 219th pick, and they scooped it up. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Good price on Nathaniel Watson in Round 7, Pick 26, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
