After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Commanders committed. Drake Maye is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
The Dankwah reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped cornerback, which is a strange place to end up. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 2 they get their guy under center for the next decade at fair value. A real need, handled.
Keon Coleman in No. 36 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Kingsley Suamataia in the 40th overall pick, miles early. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Cade Stover at the Round 3 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They liked Jonah Elliss enough to skip the value, taking him in the 78th pick. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Johnny Wilson at slot 100 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Malik Mustapha at Round 5, Pick 3 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Tykee Smith in pick No. 152 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
They talked themselves into Anim Dankwah at pick 222, and the board did not agree. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
