Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Ollie Gordon II got past him. The Patriots do not have to explain a thing at Round 7, Pick 4.
The Skattebo pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through interior defensive lineman.
In the end it comes back to Shemar Stewart, and a haul good enough to build on right away.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 26 they get a premier pass rusher, and a steal at that. The biggest hole, addressed.
A top-tier safety at a bargain, Nick Emmanwori in pick No. 38, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Fair-plus on Harold Fannin Jr., a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They reached into another round for Cam Skattebo, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A need, and now a little less of one.
Barrett Carter at slot 105 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They will replay Charles Grant at the Round 5 slot for years; that is how good the value is. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
The board fumbled Dont'e Thornton Jr. all the way to the 219th overall pick, and they scooped it up. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Steal is underselling it; Ollie Gordon II at pick 222 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Jermari Harris in the 240th overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A minor need, but a need all the same.
