The Chiefs spent the pick that matters most on Fernando Mendoza, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape.
On value alone, Capehart makes the weekend a net positive. They will need Canady to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
That wide receiver hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the wide receiver spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 9 they get a franchise quarterback. A clean fit for the roster.
In No. 29 they get a ballhawk on the outside, even if it was a touch early. Need was not the driver here.
Value with a capital V on Cashius Howell in pick 40, a genuine coup. The roster fit checks out.
A quiet steal in Round 3, Pick 10: Derrick Moore for less than the market said. A need, and now a little less of one.
They robbed the room for Deontae Lawson here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Bishop Fitzgerald in the 148th overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
