Nobody else had Dallen Bentley anywhere near the 156th overall pick. The Colts did, by 38 spots, and that gap is the whole story. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
The Green pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped wide receiver, which is a strange place to end up.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but wide receiver.
Pick-by-Pick
Zion Young at pick No. 47 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. The roster fit checks out.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Malachi Lawrence in the Round 3 slot. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Jalon Kilgore is a better player than Round 4, Pick 13 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They reached into another round for Dallen Bentley, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They will replay Taylen Green at slot 214 for years; that is how good the value is. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Terion Stewart in pick 249 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Circle this one: Robert Henry Jr. at Round 7, Pick 38 is a fall that decides a draft. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
