Nobody else had Dallen Bentley anywhere near the 156th overall pick. The Colts did, by 38 spots, and that gap is the whole story. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.

The Green pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped wide receiver, which is a strange place to end up.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but wide receiver.

Pick-by-Pick

R2.15 · Pick 47 · Zion Young · DE-EDGE · rank 42
Zion Young at pick No. 47 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. The roster fit checks out.
R3.14 · Pick 78 · Malachi Lawrence · DE-EDGE · rank 71
A reasonable price with a little left over, Malachi Lawrence in the Round 3 slot. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R4.13 · Pick 113 · Jalon Kilgore · CB · rank 100
Jalon Kilgore is a better player than Round 4, Pick 13 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
R5.16 · Pick 156 · Dallen Bentley · TE · rank 194
They reached into another round for Dallen Bentley, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R6.33 · Pick 214 · Taylen Green · QB · rank 185
They will replay Taylen Green at slot 214 for years; that is how good the value is. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R7.33 · Pick 249 · Terion Stewart · RB · rank 231
Terion Stewart in pick 249 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R7.38 · Pick 254 · Robert Henry Jr. · RB · rank 236
Circle this one: Robert Henry Jr. at Round 7, Pick 38 is a fall that decides a draft. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
