The tape said wait; the Lions did not. Miles Kitselman went at the Round 5 slot, a good 61 picks before the board was ready.
Roberts at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. The cornerback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. They went 4 of 9 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the cornerback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
No edge and no loss on Peter Woods in Round 1, Pick 17; it is a wash and a sensible one. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Max Iheanachor at pick No. 50 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They let Brian Parker II come to them and pounced at the 118th pick. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They read the board right and Keyron Crawford was the payoff at No. 128. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Miles Kitselman in pick 157, miles early. It fills a real need, too.
The board fumbled Jaeden Roberts all the way to slot 181, and they scooped it up. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They robbed the room for Aaron Anderson here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
You do not let a wide receiver like Josh Cameron reach the 213th pick and blink. They did not. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Quintayvious Hutchins in No. 222 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
