The Vikings put a flag in the ground for Nick Barrett, 169 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
Landing York that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with safety chief among the fixes.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
Kenyon Sadiq in the 18th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They did well to land Blake Miller in the Round 2 slot, just ahead of his grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A real head-scratcher, Nick Barrett in pick No. 82 is miles ahead of his ranking. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They read the board right and Ted Hurst was the payoff at Round 3, Pick 33. A need, and now a little less of one.
Taurean York at No. 163 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A minor itch, scratched.
You do not let a wide receiver like Reggie Virgil reach the 196th pick and blink. They did not. It fills a real need, too.
Circle this one: Tyren Montgomery at pick No. 234 is a fall that decides a draft. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
The board fumbled Kaelon Black all the way to the Round 7 slot, and they scooped it up. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A top-tier safety at a bargain, Isaiah Nwokobia in Round 7, Pick 28, plain and simple. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
