Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Chiefs spent pick No. 210 on Trevor Keegan, a name most had 41 spots down the list. The final tally is a middling C.
The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. That tight end hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
That is an interior defensive lineman worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.
Bottom line, the swing picks will decide whether this ages well.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 12 they get a matchup problem out wide at a price that makes it sweeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
In pick No. 32 they get a potential shutdown corner, and a steal at that.
They took Mason McCormick at par in the 95th pick, which is nothing to complain about. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Nice patience on Braden Fiske, who had no business lasting to pick 97. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A tidy bit of business in the 133rd overall pick, where Darius Robinson graded well above the range. The roster fit checks out.
Value said wait; Trevor Keegan in the Round 6 slot says they were not listening. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
