Somehow the biggest item on the list survived the weekend. The Chiefs never addressed tight end, and it is the kind of gap that lingers. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
Getting Hopper where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. The cost of the Jones reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 32 they get a home-run threat at receiver, outstanding value to boot. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Payton Wilson in Round 2, Pick 32 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A need, and now a little less of one.
A straight-up fair deal on Mason McCormick at pick No. 95, value and slot in agreement. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
James Williams at No. 133 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A minor itch, scratched.
By-the-book stuff, Jaylen Wright at the 158th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Nice patience on Ty'Ron Hopper, who had no business lasting to the 173rd pick. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They paid sticker price for Christian Jones in the Round 6 slot, and that is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
The board had Jalen Green higher than pick 242, and the safety fell to them anyway. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Matthew Jones in Round 7, Pick 30 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
