The war room fell hard for Austin Stogner, and it showed at the 194th pick: 155 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas. Put together, it is a D+.
The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. Whatever Drake Maye becomes, the front office has tied its fortunes to the answer. The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Getting Jones where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, interior defensive lineman very much included.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 3 they get their guy under center for the next decade at fair value.
Devontez Walker in No. 34 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Kiran Amegadjie at the Round 3 slot nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
DJ James at Round 4, Pick 4 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A reach on Brennan Jackson in the 136th overall pick; the board had better options right there. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Jha'Quan Jackson at pick 182 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Austin Stogner in the Round 6 slot, miles early. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They paid up for Evan Williams at slot 229 when waiting would have done the job. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They will replay Elijah Jones at the 233rd pick for years; that is how good the value is. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
