Dallas Cowboys

Best value of the weekend goes to the Cowboys for Hill Jr.: D.

The phones were a trap the Cowboys kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal. Too much went sideways, and the D is the honest tally.

The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. If Miller pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.

If one pick saves this weekend, it is Hill Jr..

The verdict is not kind, and fairly so; this class has a hill to climb.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.20 · Pick 20 · Avieon Terrell · CB · rank 17
In pick 20 they get a ballhawk on the outside. The biggest hole, addressed.
R1.28 · Pick 28 · Sonny Styles · LB · rank 21
In pick No. 28 they get a green-dot type in the middle at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R2.6 · Pick 38 · Christen Miller · DL · rank 56
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Christen Miller. It fills a real need, too.
R2.27 · Pick 59 · A.J. Haulcy · S · rank 50
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and A.J. Haulcy at slot 59 is the proof. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
R2.29 · Pick 61 · Anthony Hill Jr. · LB · rank 38
Anthony Hill Jr. at the Round 2 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R3.30 · Pick 94 · Austin Barber · OT · rank 109
They went early on Austin Barber in Round 3, Pick 30, and the value did not follow. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R5.12 · Pick 152 · Beau Stephens · OG · rank 158
By-the-book stuff, Beau Stephens at the 152nd pick squarely in line with his ranking. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R5.37 · Pick 177 · Red Murdock · LB · rank 191
Red Murdock at the 177th overall pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R5.40 · Pick 180 · Josh Cameron · WR · rank 185
No edge and no loss on Josh Cameron in Round 5, Pick 40; it is a wash and a sensible one. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R7.2 · Pick 218 · Kaelon Black · RB · rank 215
Kaelon Black in the Round 7 slot lands just on the right side of the ledger. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
