Somebody took the Cowboys to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it. It grades a D, and the process earned it.
The cost of the Miller reach is exactly the players who went right after him. The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and quarterback is still a hole.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 27 they get a downhill thumper at linebacker at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
In No. 30 they get a disruptive interior force, a steep price for the projection. A real need, handled.
A straight-up fair deal on A.J. Haulcy at the Round 2 slot, value and slot in agreement. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
No drama and no debate, Zachariah Branch went about where he belonged in pick No. 58. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Treydan Stukes in the 92nd overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Markel Bell at Round 3, Pick 30 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
No edge and no loss on Julian Neal in the 112th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Mikail Kamara at slot 129 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Beau Stephens at the Round 5 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
By-the-book stuff, Keagen Trost at pick 180 squarely in line with his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Red Murdock at slot 183 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
