The board owed the Chiefs one, and it paid up: Ashton Gillotte, the No. 35 name on the board, sitting there at slot 160 like a gift left on the doorstep. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes. They trusted the board more than the depth chart.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 32nd pick they get an enforcer at safety at a price that makes it sweeter.
Somehow Emeka Egbuka was still sitting there in pick 64, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Ajani Cornelius at Round 3, Pick 5 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They robbed the room for Oscar Delp here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Jabbar Muhammad in pick No. 128 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Ashton Gillotte at slot 160 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The roster fit checks out.
A wide receiver of that caliber at the 193rd overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They will replay Wyatt Milum at No. 224 for years; that is how good the value is. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
