The Theo Johnson pick is the one that will follow the Chiefs into the fall. They took him 41 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
The Burton pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The dealing nudged the ledger their way without much fuss.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 32 they get a lockdown presence outside at a price that makes it sweeter. More want than need.
Jermaine Burton is a better player than the Round 2 slot suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Theo Johnson at pick No. 95 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They liked Justin Eboigbe enough to skip the value, taking him in the 135th pick. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Walter Rouse in the 158th overall pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They talked themselves into Eric Watts at No. 172, and the board did not agree. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
