Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Jalen Green got past him. The Chiefs do not have to explain a thing at the Round 7 slot. A dependable weekend that grades out a B+.
The Bethune reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. For all the activity, tight end went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a premier pass rusher at a price that makes it sweeter. A clean fit for the roster.
They took Brenden Rice at par in pick No. 65, which is nothing to complain about. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Somehow Johnny Wilson was still sitting there in pick 95, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Darius Robinson in the 133rd pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Jaylen Wright at Round 5, Pick 26 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Jaylin Simpson in No. 172 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They barely believed it either: Isaiah Davis still on the board at the 210th overall pick. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Tatum Bethune at slot 240 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Taking Jalen Green in pick No. 250 is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. A minor need, but a need all the same.
