Kansas City Chiefs

Jones should have been long gone. The Chiefs pounced, and earned a D+.

Somebody took the Chiefs to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it.

The Barrett pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Jones.

In the end, a class the front office will want to grow past quickly.

Pick-by-Pick

R2.2 · Pick 34 · Amarius Mims · OT · rank 22
The board had Amarius Mims higher than the Round 2 slot, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R2.32 · Pick 64 · Xavier Legette · WR · rank 74
They liked Xavier Legette enough to skip the value, taking him in pick No. 64. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R3.20 · Pick 84 · Christian Mahogany · OG · rank 99
A reach on Christian Mahogany in pick 84; the board had better options right there. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R3.32 · Pick 95 · Brenden Rice · WR · rank 97
No drama and no debate, Brenden Rice went about where he belonged in Round 3, Pick 32. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R4.4 · Pick 104 · Isaac Guerendo · RB · rank 111
No edge and no loss on Isaac Guerendo in slot 104; it is a wash and a sensible one. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R4.20 · Pick 120 · Ben Sinnott · TE · rank 132
A conviction pick on Ben Sinnott at No. 120 that the board grades a round light. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R4.21 · Pick 121 · Christian Jones · OT · rank 137
A reach for Christian Jones in pick No. 121; a little patience would have been rewarded. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R4.33 · Pick 133 · Jarrian Jones · CB · rank 149
Jarrian Jones at slot 133 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
R5.22 · Pick 158 · Justin Eboigbe · DL-EDGE · rank 150
Justin Eboigbe in No. 158 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R5.36 · Pick 172 · Walter Rouse · OT · rank 172
Walter Rouse in the Round 5 slot is fair value, right on his grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R6.22 · Pick 197 · Michael Barrett · LB · rank 218
Michael Barrett at the 197th overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R7.9 · Pick 229 · Elijah Jones · CB · rank 193
They robbed the room for Elijah Jones here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
R7.18 · Pick 238 · Edefuan Ulofoshio · LB · rank 250
They paid up for Edefuan Ulofoshio at the 238th pick when waiting would have done the job. The roster fit checks out.
