Somebody in the 95th pick was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Chiefs sat still while Jermaine Burton, the No. 51 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback. They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. Value over need was the throughline, for better and worse.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
A quiet steal in the 32nd pick: Terrion Arnold for less than the market said. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They took Patrick Paul at par in the 64th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
The board fumbled Jermaine Burton all the way to pick No. 95, and they scooped it up. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Theo Johnson slid further than he should have, and No. 132 is lovely value for the tight end. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Nice patience on Mason McCormick, who had no business lasting to slot 159. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Braiden McGregor at pick 173 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
