Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Wyatt Milum got past him. The Chiefs do not have to explain a thing at slot 224.
They punted on tight end, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. They will need Hairston to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a lockdown presence outside, reach and all.
Isaiah Bond at the 64th pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Ashton Gillotte in No. 69 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Ajani Cornelius in pick No. 96, plain and simple. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Jonah Coleman at Round 4, Pick 32 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They barely believed it either: Tre Harris still on the board at pick 160. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Billy Bowman Jr. at slot 193 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
A offensive lineman of that caliber at the 224th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
