Somebody in Round 7, Pick 32 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Chiefs sat still while Elijah Jones, the No. 193 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. A mixed bag that lands at C+.
The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want.
Not a disaster, not a triumph, just a middling class.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 32 they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher at a price that makes it sweeter. A clean fit for the roster.
They liked Xavier Legette enough to skip the value, taking him in the 64th pick. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
You do not let an offensive lineman like Kiran Amegadjie reach No. 95 and blink. They did not. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
No drama and no debate, Theo Johnson went about where he belonged in the Round 4 slot. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They paid up for Walter Rouse at pick 159 when waiting would have done the job. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
No edge and no loss on Dwight McGlothern in slot 172; it is a wash and a sensible one. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Elijah Jones in Round 7, Pick 32 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
