The Patriots spent the pick that matters most on Jayden Daniels, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. They will need Wiley to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
However the rest shakes out, Taylor-Demerson at that price is a win they earned.
Add it up and this is about as clean as a draft weekend gets.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 7 they get a passer to set the clock by at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
They took Adonai Mitchell at par in No. 34, which is nothing to complain about. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Patrick Paul in pick No. 51 lands just on the right side of the ledger. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Trey Benson. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Roman Wilson in the 83rd overall pick. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Blake Fisher at pick 104 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Jaheim Bell in slot 136 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A need, and now a little less of one.
They read the board right and Dadrion Taylor-Demerson was the payoff at the 182nd pick. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Jared Wiley at the Round 6 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Josh Wallace at pick 229 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A minor need, but a need all the same.
