After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Patriots committed. Jayden Daniels is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline.
However the rest shakes out, Torrence at that price is a win they earned. Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Every board in the league had Wiley lower, and that gap is the story.
A strong weekend's work, and a rare one to find this little fault with.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 11 they get a long-term answer under center. A real need, handled.
In pick No. 23 they get a difference-maker at receiver at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Troy Franklin at the Round 2 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Patrick Paul in pick 68 is fair value, right on his grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They did well to land MarShawn Lloyd in No. 103, just ahead of his grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A straight-up fair deal on Roger Rosengarten at the 137th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Jaylin Simpson in Round 6, Pick 5 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They liked Jared Wiley enough to skip the value, taking him in the 193rd pick. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Jaylan Ford in pick 231 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Ro Torrence in slot 232, plain and simple. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
