Every other box got a look, but edge rusher did not. The Patriots will head to camp with the same hole they walked in with.
However the rest shakes out, Wright at that price is a win they earned. They gave back a little on the phones for the right to move.
Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 8 they get a home-run threat at receiver. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Tyler Guyton at pick No. 34 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It fills a real need, too.
Keon Coleman in the 43rd pick is fair value, right on his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A straight-up fair deal on Trey Benson at the Round 3 slot, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Blake Fisher at slot 104 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. A need, and now a little less of one.
They paid sticker price for Jaheim Bell in pick 136, and that is fine. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Somehow Jaylen Wright was still sitting there in the 182nd pick, and they pounced on premier running back value. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 7 slot with a little surplus value in Josh Wallace. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
