The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Patriots spent their marquee pick on Drake Maye, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback.
The phones were where this weekend was really won. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it.
That Oladapo pick is the receipt they will wave around later.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 5 they get a franchise quarterback at fair value.
No drama and no debate, Tyler Guyton went about where he belonged in the 34th overall pick. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They paid sticker price for Xavier Legette in the 37th pick, and that is fine. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Trey Benson in pick No. 68 is fair value, right on his grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
They took Johnny Wilson at par in the Round 3 slot, which is nothing to complain about. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Blake Fisher in Round 4, Pick 4 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
By-the-book stuff, Khyree Jackson at slot 106 squarely in line with his ranking. A minor itch, scratched.
Jaheim Bell in pick 136 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A tidy bit of business in Round 6, Pick 7, where Kitan Oladapo graded well above the range. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Jawhar Jordan at pick 229 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
