The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Patriots spent their marquee pick on Jayden Daniels, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Hardy. They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own.
A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want.
Add it up and this is about as clean as a draft weekend gets.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 7 they get the face of the franchise. A clean fit for the roster.
No drama and no debate, Adonai Mitchell went about where he belonged in the Round 2 slot. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Good price on Jordan Morgan in the 38th overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Kingsley Suamataia at pick 68 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Trey Benson in No. 102. The roster fit checks out.
A market-rate tight end, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Theo Johnson. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A slide stopped in pick No. 179, with Luke McCaffrey worth more than the price. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Elijah Jones at the 231st pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Taking Daequan Hardy in the 242nd pick is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
