This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Lander Barton, the No. 137 name on the board, stolen at No. 219. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
They are betting Alexander proves the room right and everyone else wrong. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a load in the middle. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A premium they did not need to pay, Aireontae Ersery a notch or two before his time. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Somehow Jihaad Campbell was still sitting there in pick No. 69, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A clean, defensible pick in Round 3, Pick 13 with a little surplus value in Jayden Higgins. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A wild overpay on Darius Alexander in pick 105, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A running back of that caliber at slot 145 is the definition of value, full stop. It fills a real need, too.
Lander Barton in the 219th overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Andres Borregales at the 222nd pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Taking Luke Lachey in No. 240 is close to grand larceny; a tight end that good had no business lasting this long. A need, and now a little less of one.
