Dallas Cowboys

The Cowboys let Horton fall into their laps, and walked away with a B.

The Cowboys spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Tory Horton, the No. 113 name on the board, in Round 5, Pick 31.

Every board in the league had Gregory lower, and that gap is the story. Leaving cornerback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.14 · Pick 14 · Ashton Jeanty · RB · rank 2
Ashton Jeanty slid further than he should have, and pick 14 is lovely value for the running back. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R2.12 · Pick 44 · Jihaad Campbell · LB · rank 41
Jihaad Campbell in pick No. 44 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R3.12 · Pick 76 · Deone Walker · DT · rank 67
They read the board right and Deone Walker was the payoff at the Round 3 slot. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R4.16 · Pick 117 · Malachi Moore · S · rank 94
Malachi Moore in the 117th overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
R5.11 · Pick 150 · Tez Johnson · WR · rank 104
Somehow Tez Johnson was still sitting there in Round 5, Pick 11, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R5.31 · Pick 170 · Tory Horton · WR · rank 113
You do not let a wide receiver like Tory Horton reach slot 170 and blink. They did not. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R5.33 · Pick 172 · Tyler Shough · QB · rank 145
Tyler Shough in No. 172 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R5.35 · Pick 174 · Emery Jones Jr. · OT · rank 129
A offensive lineman of that caliber at the 174th pick is the definition of value, full stop. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R6.12 · Pick 190 · Upton Stout · S · rank 183
A tidy little value on Upton Stout in pick No. 190, a step better than break-even. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
R6.33 · Pick 211 · Jamon Dumas-Johnson · LB · rank 212
No edge and no loss on Jamon Dumas-Johnson in Round 6, Pick 33; it is a wash and a sensible one. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R7.31 · Pick 249 · Eric Gregory · DL · rank 272
Eric Gregory at the 249th pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The roster fit checks out.
