Somebody in the Round 7 slot was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Chiefs sat still while Blake Watson, the No. 226 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
They are betting Jones proves the room right and everyone else wrong. A whole weekend of picks and tight end is somehow still a want.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the tight end spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 31 they get a No. 1 receiver. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They took Payton Wilson at par in the 63rd pick, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Cooper Beebe is a better player than No. 94 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Cole Bishop in pick No. 131 is fair value, right on his grade. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Value with a capital V on Ty'Ron Hopper in the 161st overall pick, a genuine coup. A need, and now a little less of one.
They jumped the gun on Ethan Driskell, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A big swing on Christian Jones at slot 175, well ahead of any board in the building. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
By-the-book stuff, Kenny Logan Jr. at pick 209 squarely in line with his ranking. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Blake Watson in the Round 7 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
