The Dolphins looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Ajou Ajou at pick 158 regardless, 151 picks early. The good and the questionable cancel out to a C+.
J.J. McCarthy is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Quarterback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
The verdict is a shrug for now, with the swing picks left to write the real ending.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 21st pick they get the face of the franchise, though the board says they badly overpaid. The biggest hole, addressed.
Trey Benson in Round 2, Pick 21 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A need, and now a little less of one.
Ajou Ajou at pick No. 158 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Isaiah Williams at pick 186 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Value said wait; Logan Brown in the 235th overall pick says they were not listening. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
