Somebody in Round 7, Pick 30 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Chiefs sat still while Ryan Watts, the No. 225 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. No fireworks, but a solid B-.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through tight end. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the tight end spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 32 they get a weapon on the perimeter at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Payton Wilson at No. 64 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It fills a real need, too.
They paid sticker price for Blake Fisher in pick No. 95, and that is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Darius Robinson slipping to the 133rd pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
No edge and no loss on Jaylen Wright in the Round 5 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. The roster fit checks out.
Javion Cohen in pick 172 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Christian Jones in the 210th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Ryan Watts in slot 250, plain and simple. A minor need, but a need all the same.
