Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Chiefs were there to profit. Marcus Harris, the No. 152 name on the board, should have been long gone before Round 5, Pick 37.
For all the activity, tight end went untouched, which is hard to explain. Spending an early pick on cornerback with tight end, quarterback and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the tight end spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 32nd overall pick they get a ballhawk on the outside, outstanding value to boot. More want than need.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Devontez Walker. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A surprising call. With tight end, quarterback and other spots still to address, they spent slot 95 on Max Melton, a cornerback they were not short of.
A tidy little value on Johnny Wilson in the Round 4 slot, a step better than break-even. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Mason McCormick in No. 159. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They barely believed it either: Marcus Harris still on the board at pick 173. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
