New England Patriots

The Patriots bet the future on Maye. The board says C-.

Start where it matters. The Patriots took Drake Maye to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one.

Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up.

Braswell falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.

Call it incomplete, and check back in a couple of seasons.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.3 · Pick 3 · Drake Maye · QB · rank 5
In pick No. 3 they get a franchise quarterback. A clean fit for the roster.
R2.2 · Pick 34 · Troy Franklin · WR · rank 24
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Troy Franklin in No. 34. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R2.15 · Pick 47 · Kiran Amegadjie · OT · rank 52
They paid sticker price for Kiran Amegadjie in the 47th pick, and that is fine. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R3.4 · Pick 68 · Chris Braswell · LB-EDGE · rank 57
Chris Braswell at pick 68 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R4.36 · Pick 136 · Dallin Holker · TE · rank 147
They went early on Dallin Holker in slot 136, and the value did not follow. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
