The search is over. The Patriots handed the keys to Drake Maye, and the whole operation now runs on his development.
If Jackson pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. On value alone, Jones makes the weekend a net positive.
Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a long-term answer under center at fair value. A real need, handled.
Kiran Amegadjie at the 34th overall pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It fills a real need, too.
Malachi Corley in No. 68 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Dallin Holker at slot 104 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Nice patience on Jarrian Jones, who had no business lasting to the 136th pick. A minor itch, scratched.
A big swing on Jha'Quan Jackson at pick No. 182, well ahead of any board in the building. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
David Ugwoegbu in Round 7, Pick 9 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. The roster reasoning here is anyone's guess.
