Start where it matters. The Patriots took Drake Maye to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one.
Landing Hunt that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. The Solomon pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with interior defensive lineman, safety and other spots still on the board.
The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
By-the-book stuff, Drake Maye at pick No. 3 squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They barely believed it either: JC Latham still on the board at No. 34. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Troy Franklin in the 68th overall pick, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went OLB-EDGE with Javon Solomon while clear needs at interior defensive lineman, safety and other spots sat open.
A cornerback of that caliber at the 137th pick is the definition of value, full stop. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
You do not let a wide receiver like Luke McCaffrey reach the Round 6 slot and blink. They did not. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Somehow Jalyx Hunt was still sitting there in pick 193, and they pounced on premier edge rusher value. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
The board fumbled Jaylan Ford all the way to slot 231, and they scooped it up. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
