Call it larceny. Smael Mondon Jr. sat on the board until the Round 5 slot, and the Texans did not need to be asked twice.
That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The roster is better shaped than it was, with running back chief among the fixes.
The skill positions did well by the weekend.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 25 they get a difference-maker at receiver, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
No edge and no loss on Alfred Collins in slot 58; it is a wash and a sensible one. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They robbed the room for Xavier Watts here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They will replay Cam Skattebo at the 127th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Smael Mondon Jr. in No. 167 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A top-tier tight end at a bargain, Luke Lachey in the Round 7 slot, plain and simple. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
